One important lesson that I learned in 2017 is that you and only you can determine your happiness. I wasted so much time trying to make things work, comparing myself to other people, comparing the success of my relationships with my happiness, ect. I am who I am. Some People will not like who I am but all that matters is that I like who I am. In order to succeed and love myself I have to only focus on myself. It’s the only thing I have control over. In 2018 I’m going to strive to refocus all of my energy on me. People will come and go and things will change but that is out of my control. But I can every day strive to make myself a better person. It’s unrealistic to expect anybody to love me if I can’t love myself. Once I can do this everything will fall into place.

It’s easy to say you’re over someone if you aren’t seeing them. The challenge is to look them in the eye and see their smile and hear their voice and still be able to say “this is not what I want anymore”.

Nothing lasts,” she says, and there’s a little crack in her voice. “You think it’s going to. You think, ‘Here’s something I can hold on to,’ but it always slips away.
